Yaay! If you don't remember, my roommate, ~ChibiSilverWings, bought a parrotlet this summer, an adorable little green bird she's named Abby (after both the NCIS genius Abby and the Founding Mother Abigail Adams). Here's what she looks like:

Anyway, parrotlets are pretty fiesty little things, and though they don't really talk (females like Abby only have about a 10% chance of learning to talk), they are very expressive, and we spend a lot of time talking to her anyway. One of her favorite things to hear us say is "Pretty Wing!" She does a little "birdy yoga" type move where she balances on one foot and stretches out one of her wings. We can tell that she likes hearing us compliment her wings, because she'll hold out her wing longer the longer we say it, and if we don't, she'll look to us like "Hey, what's up?" She'll even squeak along with me when I'm practicing my arias. We've had her for a few months now, and she's gotten really close to Chels and I. She'll even get jealous of our laptops and try to attack them for stealing our attention away from her.

Well, yesterday we had some guests over (for a project you will all see soon enough), and Abby didn't quite get all the attention she would have liked. She was doing her birdy yoga, and though her mommy was holding her, said Mommy was not paying enough attention to compliment Abby on her wings.

So Abby gave herself the compliment! She said, "Pretty Wing!"

We were wondering if it was a fluke, but then she said it again, tonight! Parrotlets don't speak really clearly, but the inflection and pitch (we say it in a sing-song-voice) were unmistakable! Abby's talking to us! Such a clever little bird she is. ^_^ Only 10% of the girls learn to talk, but it looks like Abby's gonna one of those smart few.

Speaking of the little devil, she's hopped over onto my lap and is sick and tired of all this blogging. I'll help her with her preening a little before I get back to my comics. (Yeah, we spoil her a little.)
